Our Terroirs

The House's Emblematic Terroirs

We cannot talk about the art of blending without mentioning the Champagne terroir .

All the work of the cellar master draws its richness from the diversity of soils, exposures and grape varieties.

While climate change rightly focuses attention on the future of wine, another factor—essential but too often overlooked—profoundly shapes the quality of Champagnes: terroir.

At Champagne VIRGINIE T., we are convinced that it is the terroir, even more than the climate, which forges the character, the aging, and the nobility of a great wine.

Champagne is unique in this respect: its chalky soils, moderate altitude, northern latitude and diversity of exposures make it an exceptional terroir on a global scale.

Reims Mountain and Côte des Blancs

Our identity pillars

Two emblematic areas concentrate our vineyards: The Montagne de Reims, land of powerful and structured Pinot Noirs,

The Côte des Blancs, cradle of fine and chiseled Chardonnays.

This duo of complementary terroirs is at the heart of our style: structured, complex, designed for aging.

“It is in Verzenay that our vision is fully expressed: that of a magnificent champagne, with ageing potential and character.”X

Ferdinand Pougatch-Taittinger

The northern slopes, lands of the future

Long in the shadow of Bouzy, Ambonnay or Aÿ (villages on the southern slope), the Grand Cru villages on the northern flank of the Montagne de Reims are today recognized by the greatest houses for their ability to produce exceptional Pinot Noirs, with remarkable aging potential.

For us;

  • Verzenay,
  • Verzy,
  • Mailly-Champagne

They combine altitude, pure chalky soils, and above all, a northern exposure which, in the face of global warming, is becoming a strategic asset. These terroirs produce fresher, more balanced grapes with natural acidity.
